Calathea Lancifolia 'Insignis'

Calathea Insignis (Goeppertia Insignis), commonly known as the Rattlesnake Plant, is a tropical indoor perennial from the Marantaceae family. This species features erect, narrow, lance-shaped leaves with wavy margins. The upper leaf surface is light green with alternating large and small dark green oval markings along the midrib. The underside of the leaf is a solid deep purple. As a nyctinastic plant, it raises its leaves vertically at night and lowers them during the day.

Light: Needs medium to bright indirect sunlight. Keep away from harsh direct sun to prevent leaf bleaching and scorch marks.
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not saturated. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry, using filtered, distilled, or rainwater to avoid brown edges.
Temperature: Maintain a warm environment between 65–85°F. Keep the plant protected from sudden cold drafts and temperatures below 60°F.
Humidity: Requires a relative humidity level of 50% or higher. Use an indoor humidifier or a pebble tray to prevent dry, crispy leaf margins.
Soil: Plant in a well-draining, lightweight potting mix. A combination of peat moss, perlite, and fine orchid bark works best for healthy root ventilation.
Fertilizer: Apply a balanced, water-soluble liquid houseplant fertilizer diluted to half-strength every 4 weeks during the active spring and summer growing season.
