Sarracenia Purpurea Venosa 'Red' premium selection of the northern pitcher plant, prized for its intense burgundy and dark crimson coloration. Under direct sunlight, this compact cultivar transforms completely into a rich wine-red color. Forms low-growing rosettes of short, plump, velvety pitchers with open hoods designed to collect rainwater. Ideal for sunny windowsills and outdoor bog gardens.

Sarracenia Purpurea Venosa 'Red' Care Guide:

Hardiness zone (USDA zone): 4-9
Light: Full sun (6-8 hours daily) or a powerful high-output LED grow light is mandatory. Without intense light, this cultivar will lose its deep red pigmentation and turn green.
Watering: Use strictly distilled, rain, or RO water via the tray method. If grown indoors, manually fill the open pitchers halfway with pure water.
Temperature: Summer temperatures can range from 70°F to 95°F+. Requires a strict winter dormancy period of 3-4 months between 32°F and 45°F with significantly reduced watering.
Humidity: 50–70% with good air circulation to prevent mold, but avoid direct misting.
Soil: Nutrient-poor, acidic substrate (pH 3-5) consisting of 2 parts pure peat moss to 1 part perlite or quartz sand.
Fertilizer: None. Standard potting soils or chemical fertilizers contain minerals that will instantly destroy the root system.
